Thread: What minimum shutter speed to freeze movement?

Default What minimum shutter speed to freeze movement?

Assuming the subjects are ppl walking and talking without too much big and fast movement. What is the general guide for a minimum shutter speed that can be used without flash? 1/60?

    1/30 second

I thought it was usually around 1/60th of a second? Or you could always use the 1/focal length guideline.

1/ focal length guide is for handshakes.

No set setting, depending on your subjects. could range from 1/30 to 1/60.

For people walking in a "reasonable" speed, I would aim for not less than 1/250.

while, how fast is enough to freeze the moving object,
    it depends on:

    1. the relative speed between the object and you
    2. the distance between the object and you.
    (3. moving direction)

consider when you shoot the aeroplane flying in the sky, not difficult to freeze it with a slow shutter speed. increase the shutter speed when the distance is short...
