    Hi,
Newbie here.... So dun quite understand.
How is this different from the 3rd clause of the Canon's Photo Marathon?
The organisers reserve the right to use any submitted photograph for any purposes without compensation to the photographer.
Is it the use of the term 'have the ownership'?
Or is it because this Canon contest's prize is worth over $1K?

use and ownership is very different

Shall have ownership means that they now own the image and you don't

Use still means that you own the image, just that they have the right to use.
    But it still sucks

it's better that the prize is good
    and the event is fun!

Not trying to be 'ti ki' or funny, but dun see much diff in the above.
Cos to me, bottomline still the same, they use my pict without asking (and more imptly, paying) me...

    Yeah.... The description sounds interesting...
Too bad I'm still on film cameras...
    Do they accept P&S entries?

the difference is that you can still do what you want with it because you still own it
like sell / rent it to generate money

    can catch the ball?

Thats where you are wrong, use = license, ownership = copyright given. A VERY VERY big difference.

When a license is granted (if it is non-exclusive), the copyright holder can still grant licenses to other people (in layman language, can ask others to pay to use) or can still use it for himself. When copyright is given, it means you have ZERO rights, ie you can't do squat with the work.

Ask them to put it in the T&Cs if they mean what they say :P As of present, only the T&Cs are binding. The reply from AVA will only be binding to blurblock (if it is even binding in the first place), not to anyone else.
