Hi all,
real amatuer here. Just decided to take the plunge and buy the KM5D even though the sales person was trying very hard to promote the olympus e300. I still chose the KM5D in the end cos it felt more comfortable in my hands. Hope to get some pointers on digital photography from you all. Cheers

Welcome. Remember ultimately the camera is only a tool. Taking and appreciating pictures should be the ultimate aim, not the fanciest bodies or lens.

Welcome. Glad to see a sudden surge in KM users. Hopefully the local shops stock more KM lenses with increased demand

Just got my 7D back from KM service ctr. 2 weeks to align the BF
Saw the whites, 300F4 & 80-200

wow, so mny replies..
anyway i couldn't help but start snapping some pics using my 5D... Alas! My pics were all blurred and out of focus... Strange thought the AS is supposed to correct for handhakes to a certain degree? How does it actually work? I read from the manual that You should on;y shoot when the AS has corrected for your shakey hand but how does it exactly indicate when the AS is compensating? Is it when i see more bars or i see less bars in my viewfinder?

Sorry... need to get this sorted out...

In your view finder, there's 5 LED bar on the right, when it reaches 5 bars, means you're too shaky, AS might not activate. if you see a camera icon next to it lights up, AS will not be activated.

wow...Thanks for the prompt reply. i always see the camera icon next to my 5 bar LED... that means my AS will not activate? Then it kinda defeats the purpose i guess cos those are the situations eg low light that i need the AS to help out a bit.

So what lens is recommended? i was eyeing the sigma 18-125mm lens... but way ex... $560+

Hi Don,
If I am not mistaken, D5D has only 3 bars, does this mean D7D has better AS? BTW, if the shutter speed is too slow, the AS will not work too... I think with the kit lens, I can only managed a decent sharpness at 1/60 for handheld. I still need to gain more skill with the camera.

1/60 sec is normal shutter speed for camera without antishake,is,vr or ois system
must adopt the correct shooting position at extreme low shutter situation...hold the camera close to yr face, arm tuck in close to yr body...breath in and hold yr breath..half press the shutter...look for the bar inside the viewfinder make sure u keep it to only 1 bar...then fully depressed all the way...

I believe the AS mechanism is the same as the 7D, probably the indicator is not as detailed as the 7D.

AS technology can only do so much for you. For certain situation, a tripod is still required.
Try to do some test shot w and w/o AS on. It will show you what your AS and how much it can help you to a certain extent.
