Hiee...
I do not have experience with the Tcon-17 but to my understanding, form my use of olympus front teleconvertors, they are reat and optics are well corrected for CAs and so on. However, do be careful when attaching the "heavy front" and using the setup on tripod. I used my Dimage A1 with the tcon14 and its already frontal heavy. I dont think you loss any stops of light but there might be vignetting. Well, with the 1.5x crop factor, i dont think vigneetin gis an issue here. rgds, sulhan |

Sulhan, actually between front (Olympus) and back (1.4x, 2x) teleconvertor, which is better optics or less problem.
I mean beside the advantage of the back teleconvertor can fix almost all lens where as, frontback teleconvertor can fix 55mm thread only.

I only tried the two while in the shop during my A1 days. Well, the only gripe is the vignetting risk. Well, you can use also step-down or step-rings to fix the 55mm to the lens you want to mount on - in this is the route you choose. In terms of image degradation, well.....you are adding glass in the light path and the thwo optics are not designed in the first place to match. Its best ot go and take a couple of shots with you camera and see the result. Rgds, sulhan |

Hi Sulhan thanks for the info. I do own a TCON-17 for sometime now. Used it a lot with my Canon Pro90is. It's indeed a nice optics. The weight and size is balanced well with Pro90is.
The sad thing is, I drop it and one of element inside is loose now. Thingking of getting another one with a Sigma 70-300mm. It's 1.7x and light loss is minimal ( Oly says no loss ) as compared to rear mount 1.4x which takes 1 stop. And rotating front element may cause a lot of strain on AF motor with front attachment I guess. Hope to see some picture taken with this combo |
