    Default Designer babies

If you are a parent, would you welcome this?

Potentially, it can eliminate all congenital diseases. Good or evil?

Both... it can do lots of good (remove Genes and Inherited Diseases)... but also lead to evil.

Control and law will be all important...

Clickbait? If you follow the 23andme link, it seems like the actual patent had nothing to do with what the testtube.com site suggests in their title... There's no element of 'design' involved. All the 23andMe service allowed one to do was to let parents see what they might pass onto their children, based on their genetic test results.

Genetics company 23andMe was just granted a patent on technology that allows you to design a child in the same way you might a car or a house.
We offer parents a chance to look at the traits and conditions they might pass onto their children, something that many couples attempt to do without using genetics. Rather they look to their observable traits and medical histories within their own families. For example, prospective parents may be curious as to whether their children will have blue eyes or brown, or curly hair or a dimpled chin. Couples may also want to know about more serious conditions and risks that sometimes run in families. 23andMe offers a chance to use genetics to look at both traits and other inherited conditions.

Not unlike premarital screening, just at a different level?

    Definition of Premarital Screening:
It is defined as conducting examination for soon-to-be married in order to identify if there is any injury with genetic blood diseases such as sickle-cell anemia (SCA) and Thalassemia, and some infectious diseases such as hepatitis B, C and HIV "Aids". This is in order to provide medical consultation on the odds of transmitting these diseases to the other marriage partner or the children in the future, and to give options and alternatives before soon-to-be married with the aim of helping them plan for a healthy, sound family.
