Hi, took my 5D out for a walk, but noticed that when I half press the shutter release button, it focus locks but doesn't lock the exposure, unlike my nikon cam.
So if I keep the shutter release half depressed and shift the frame, the metering runs to accomodate the new metered amts. Is there a setting to lock the focus & exposure by half depressing the shutter release button, short of using AEL button? Couldn't find anything on it in the manual. Thanks! |

No, Minolta is unlike Nikon, thats why its a different brand. You can setup the AEL button to hold (press and hold to lock) or toggle (press once to lock, another time to unlock). see user manual page 94. Hope this helps.

Just to clarify, you can set that on nikon too.. just that the default is to lock both focus & exposure on half-depress. You can over ride the settings in the menus.

Every brand is trying to be different from another. If you're so used to one brand then jump to another, you'll find some features you've been using is not found on the other. Sad but true. You'll just have to adapt to your new camera. Anyway, happy shooting and hope to see some nice photos from you.

Actually I prefer to have separate exposure lock & focus lock, so I can get the the shade in one area, focus on another and frame the picture later.
