I was there last week too. Some of the places do look familiar esp for Taroko and Hua lien. How long were you there for? I just went to Taipei and Hualien.

it was more of a free and easy trip for me. Stayed for about a week too. I left 2 days after the typhoon Tali. Did you spend much time in Taroko? Did you took the train or took bus to hua lien? I spent so much time walking till i got two big blisters on both side of my feet!! I also put up some of my pics the night before. Next time go there you should try to backpack, more fun but need to brush up Mandarin first ha....

I went for a package tour with family, I do agree with you on bacpacking. There are so many opportunities along the way, just bacause 'm on the tour bus. Think I will be back, and try to avoid the hot summer and typhoon season.
