    Where do you see the word 'medieval' in the article? The German text does not use this word, nor does it make any reference to this era.
    The sentence "Die Strafe hat ihren Ursprung in der britischen Kolonialzeit..." reads "The punishment has its origin in the British colonial era...".
    And: what exactly is strange to you?

    Worldwide yes, but unfortunately the interpretation of human rights is different one country to another.
