Default Calibrating ECF on eos30

Just got my hands on the eos30, but i didnt have the proper instruction manual to eos30. For people who have eos30. How to you actually go about calibrating? I see there is 1 to 5. What are they? Is it 1 setting for each person? or 1 setting for each environment? Is there a need to calibrate the protrait orienatation as well? Can anyone show me the way?

Btw, it would be fantastic to know where can download the eos30 manual. or scanned pages of the manual on the calibration part.

Brother, you can refer to Page 43 of the manual for calibration.

USM, thanks for the link. Actually I also have the 30v pdf manual, i thought that 30v has a newer ECF than 30. So the ECF calibration system might be a bit different. After reading more in depth, it seems that per calibration number, it can save many many settings from the same "eye". Do you know how many settings it can save before it overrides the oldest one? Does that mean the 5 calibration number can accomodate up to 5 different users?

HI, offering my own personal experience here.

The ECF is termed to be 'Intellegent Eye Control' by the makting ppl in Canon. Yes, do make calibration on just one CAL number more often. However, use the same lens becasue our eyes react a little differntly when seeing whid angle and tele. On the same CAL number, always do calibration for vertical and horizontal. The system is supposed to narrow down the variables and 'learn' from each calibration sessions and can give you more accurate ECF.

There are 5 CAL numbers (locations) you can have one for each type of lens you own. Or if you share camera, both you and your buddy can use your own calibration numbers.

Don;t worry about constant calibrating, as long as you yourself remains consistant during calibration, the system will get better. Don; towrry about memory space either. I have calibrated my own setting over 50 times each - for veritcal and horizontal orientation.

But becareful, somehow, prolong use of ECF encourages eye fatuige. Not by the laser but becasue your eyes need to 'tense up' during the operation. So far, no known reports of ppl being blinded by ECF. I thnk Canon is not stupid enough to blind their customers, now that would be really dumb

you;re not supposed to tense up during calibration. Just look casually at the points.
