Hi,
Just wonder if I should switch this function off? By default, it's set as ON. Will I get a clearer photo if I capture at ISO100? |

Yes I set mine at off and use PSCS2's noise reduction instead, more controllable.
For some reason iso200 is supposed to have less noise than iso100. |

Interesting feedback here.. "For some reason iso200 is supposed to have less noise than iso100" will monitor.. Another question, Do you normally set the Image quality to extra fine or fine.. Seem like setting it to extrafine, each photo file size is aroun 4-5MB.. From the manual, 512 memory can only take 80+ photos..Is FINE setting good enough?? Is there any way to find out the qty of shots you can still take with the memory card? From the LCD, it only shows number of shots taken.. |

The noise reduction on the D7D is actually dark frame subtraction. It is not the normal colour noise removal.
The CCD, I believe, has a native ISO of 200-1600, which is similar to D70 and in earlier D7D prototypes. ISO 100 is probably obtained through some manipulations of the data from the CCD. As such, they lose information which resulted in higher noise than ISO 200. The case for D5D would probably be the same as the D7D. Last edited by UY79; 3rd September 2005 at 10:18 PM. |

so far, i've not noticed any difference in noise between ISO100 and ISO200, I normally use ISO200.
as for settings between Extra Fine and Fine, these are equivalent to Jpeg compression rate. Fine has higher compression rate than Extra Fine. in terms of colours, they are almost the same but Fine do lose a little bit of details which would not be noticable when down-sized or print at 4R. when you "viewing" the photo using LCD, it will show xxx/yyy at lower left corner, where, xxx is the number of photo you are viewing, the yyy is the total number of photo you have on the card.
