Default Photos from KM camera

Hi,
I went down to HN and tried out D5.. One observation is that the shot seems to be soft..even when it's focused.. I viewed some of the posted shots from D5 in the web.. and they seem to be soft as well..

Can someone post a shot from D5 that is crispy sharp for viewing??

Hope I'm not asking too much.. Frankly I'm considering KM5D or C350D..

Could it be that the kits lens is not good ? Wonder if anyone taking macros with a true macro lens using the AS feature.. My dream of a macro lens with IS.. (Yes I am lazy to setup and use the tripod)

Hi, how are these shots ? http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...hread=14711808

The default mode for the camera is natural with sharpening set to 0, so out of the camera the shots are not sharp.

wanna convert?

i dunno what type of macro u talking about, insects?

if for stagnant object with good lighting, confirm no problem... think any system also can...

the problem with KM's AS is you cannot predict the composition... there sometimes u thought u frame ok already, then you use AS, handshake, the picture composition will be off abit.

Eyesthruthelens, to get the best results from the 5D, I feel that a decent lens is needed. At least this is what I gathered from my limited time I had with a 5D. The kit lens is only satisfactorily sharp if you stepped down the aperture. Of course, one can still take decent pictures with it but if you wanna nitpick and want good image quality when printing your images 8R and above, a better lens is needed, like all DSLRs. To be frank, I am not impressed by the kit lens, but then, with KM pricing the whole set so cheap, what to expect? The same goes for the Nikon D50 and Canon 350D... all comes with crappy kit lens.

Hi, can you elaborate on that? You mean due to the CCD shift AS thingy, the composition gets shifted?

there you've said, "handshake" that's why your composition is off. still depends on what focal length. the longer the more it goes off.

eh, cos we see thru the viewfinder, the picture keep moving, yes... den the CCD compensate... hence the composition 'off'...

but compared to IS or VR, you see thru the viewfinder, your hand shaking, the picture still appear clear... its lens compensated...

so are you saying that with lens applied image stabilisation, the composition will be what you see thru' the viewfinder while for CCD AS technique, there may be some shift in composition?

Yup, i guess thats what he meant. When I off my IS on my lens, I can actually see the shaking thru the viewfinder, when I on the IS, the shake seems to have reduced. I guess for Minolta 5d, u can still see the shake thru the viewfinder while the ccd compensate for the shake.

What are you using now ? 7D ? Any links to your gallery to show ? I think 5D and 7D should have the same output (Color, saturation, contrast) for photos right since using the same CCD ? Is thinking of getting a 5D for casual use and maybe as well as macro.. hee hee

Interesting.. on my observation on soft image on KM5D..
Even thought 5D has 2.5" LCD.. but the LCD has bad resolution.. I read.. bad contrast as well..
Maybe, that is why I'm getting soft image on the LCD

I'm currently using Canon G3.. the picture looks better on the LCD..

still can't made out my mind to get either the d50 or 5d
the 350d is out of my selection..
tried all the dslrs yesterday..was really impressed with the d50/d70 af speed and shot to shot with flash...the 5d is not far behind but not as responsive as the nikon plus the viewfinder not as bright as
hmm will have to go down and molest the cameras again

Yes the cans shot look soft and a bit blur. Maybe due to handshake ? I noticed that it is at 50mm f5.6 and the shutter speed is 1/8. Although there is AS but it may not be perfect to really allows u to shoot at 2 stops slower ?

Hahaha..

Oh Yah...

I was using Kacang's camera...hopefully he still have the sample.
Okay.....mostly the softness may come form many factors like shake, lack DOF, bad focus...etc...

So please be sensitive to these factors...
