Somewhere I read (IIRC) the reason why they don't switch to Li-Ion for their 1-series is because Li-Ion does work as well as NiCd in cold weather.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Why we want Li-ion for cam...simply because:

1. It can hold more charge for the same volume.

2. It can be formed into a lot of shapes, thus optimising the volume required for batteries.

3. It DOES NOT have memory effects, so you still can charge a partially charged batt without it loosing it's capacity.

I think that the 3rd point is most relavent for most users, pro or othewise... who shoots till the batt totally deplete thn risk losing precious shots as the cam stops working. 1 series batt ain't exactly cheap either.

I wish for the sensor to have more bit depth instead.

same here...the only thing i want is flexible crop factor.

i got 4 x NP-E3 now, so they better make sure all future 1 series will be compatible with NP-e3, many of us had invested a lot in this expensive battery already

Isn't the D2X a 1.5X base sensor?

A FF sensor is still the best.

Adding Li-On is great if it's compatible with older 1D series and it's charger........

that's digital zoom... you could do it in post processing and need not be limited to centre crop

Like i mentioned in December 2002,

"DSLRs will have full frame 16Mp+ 35mm sensors BUT: They will have an option to go into 1.5x DX lens compatible mode. In this mode only the cropped 1.5x image is captured and sent to memory card, thus speeding up write times and frame rates. Multi-pattern metering is also adjusted to take into account the smaller image circle."

Yes...one batt is even for 1600 shots - enough to cover 3~6 events easily...I got a spare just to make sure I'm don't waste the batt's life...at least about 500 time charging only before u see drop in capacity...(used up all the power before charging although there is a refresh mode in our charger)

Li-ion battery or not.

The next upgrade I hope to see is to see a sub-$7K Full-Frame 1-series.
