Default Thinking of getting the Mamiya RB67.. but where?

Never a MF user, i have some general questions to ask:

1. Where can i get this piece of gem, at an affordable price for a 2nd hand piece? Malaysia, HK or US? What are the prices i expect to pay?
2. What must i check when i'm going to purchase it?
3. there are so many ranges of lenses for Mamiya like Sekor C, Sekor, etc.. Which are the better ones to get?
4. Since they have interchangable backs, does it means i can have 1 back loaded with BW film and the other color film, then i can shoot whatever i want at any time?
5. how much does a 6x6 or 6x7 back cost?
6. Since a RB67 can use many sizes film, and a 6x6 and 6x7 film yield different perspective when using the same lens. Am i able to see the different perspective when look through the viewfinder?

Plenty available here, many pro are disposing the reliable workhorse, buy and sell has a few units, the camerawork shop have a few units, if you getting a RB, go for the latest SD body, and the KL lenses.

Btw, don't forget to get a most heavier tripod you can manage, the RB is not meant for handheld.

they all use the same roll film, can just crop the 6x7 neg to a square 6x6 later on..

Bronica has one 6x6 camera i think, not sure the price though.

I am aware that the Mamiya RZ did feature a 6x6 film back.. yet it is questionable whether you are not better of at these low current market prices with a 6x7, with maybe some sort of 6x6 marks in the view finder and simply just waste a couple of frames from every film (can't remember now how many since I no longer shoot 6x7).. The last time I checked for the RZ's 6x6 back it still commanded a high price on e-bay.

Also the Hassy's are cheap if yoiu are really craving for a 6x6, along with the Bronica's etc.. In the current MF market it is a buyers market, so take it easy and slow you loose nothing but gain a lot!

Daniel

Hmm.. I have not been out in the shops for a very long time (I have discovered photography has more to do with shooting rather than in buying!) but think about it for a minute:

If all the pros are dumping their "film kits" for "digital workflow kits" then surely there will come a point of time when the demand from the amateurs for used Medium Format kits will saturate and then drop. Following the "supply demand" rule of economics the price of available stocks will also drop.

If you want, I have a spare Hassy 500CM which I can sell you at a low price! Then again I also have a Hassy 501c which I won't sell you and a Contax 645 which I am also keeping

-- Bronica's: The problem with Bronica's in the past was that there was a very low amount of "stuff" to go around (including buying new ones!!!!). This seems to have come round though now that Bronica has gone belly-up, as a fair number of people are selling their kits (thus: how long will the plethora of stuff last is anybody's guess). I know Orion has put his 645 kit for sale, so have a look around..

How many Bronica lenses you need?

I have 40mm, 80mm, 150mm for my SQ, that's more the enough, for what I know, most 120 users also having 3 or 4 lenses only.

You can get 80mm and 150mm easily, and 50mm also very common, but not for 40mm, is more ex.

Btw, for the price of a used Hasselblad 40mm lens, you may can get a set Mamiya RB or Bronica SQ with 2 or 3 lenes.

Well no denying it. A 'blad will always be worth more than a Mamiya or a Bronica. True.

Hello Marios! May I ask of you - how much are you selling yr Hassy 500CM? Are you selling as a kit set with a standard kit lens & film back?

Hi there
The Hassy is one of 2 that I have and thus it has to go (no need for 3++ Medium Format cameras really). I am discussing with Daniel on Mon, if that fails then I can offer it to you or just put it on sale on the B&S. I have an extra 50mm and an extra 80mm that I am also selling along with a film back, a flash grip, a waist level finder and a sports finder.
