The slightest mention of the 5D makes me tingle with anticipation.... must resist, must resist...

*sigh* Is it gonna be out only ard October/November? What a wait!

Then, I am quite scared because then I heard that 3D is going to be out mid-next year (is this true?). Can you believe that? Nowadays, D-SLR really have short product life span.

Not too sure about the EOS 3D though. Anyway, this reminds of the days when I got my Pentium III 933MHz then a few months later they launched the Pentium 4 series. Its just a computer and the same goes for digital cameras.

What's there to be scared of?

If and when Canon rolls out a 3D it does not mean that the 5D will suddenly quit working. Going by your logic my D30 would have failed......3 times over. Once when the D60 was introduced, once when the 10D came out, and once more when the 20D came out. And I'm not even talking about the DSLRs in the other price brackets......

For that matter, 3D and 5D, if the film equivalents are anything to measure against, will probably be DSLRs pitched at a different price point with a slightly different feature set.

Depreciation is high, bro. You thought you got the best mah, then a better one comes out 6 mths later. It can be a nightmare when you already spent a lump sum on what is "state-of-the-art" and then a better one surpasses that.

I think we have to be contented with what we have and buy what suits your purpose and just don't follow the flow. But just like the PC days, the temptation to upgrade is always there . *irresistible* Oh well...., you know.

Actually I am waiting for the 20D's price to come down below $2k, then can start considering. 5D and 20D's specs is too close for the price diff.

er, the EOS 5D will retail for about $5.5 - 6k . That's about double of the EOS 20D. ...

unlikely they'll bring the price of the 20D down much, at least not till early next year just before it becomes obsolete.

Why would they - they're selling enough of them at this price-point.

FYI, P3-933Mhz is faster and more stable than the first generation of Pentium 4

Too close?? 1.6x FOV and full frame can hardly be termed "close". That alone is enough to set the 2 cameras miles apart. The 20D and 5D can hardly be compared to each other.

Har.. Too close meh? With 12 MP, Full frame, and 2.5" LCD + others... Think that's BIG deal! Unless of cos u dun need all these.. then it's diff story. Anyway, 5D and 20D are in diff categories. Prices for 20D wont drop IMHO.

Somthimes I don;t know if stuck with Canon system is a blessing or disister. There are 3 sensor sizes. Yeah, they are seperated by pricing but I wonder if Canon is 'undecisive' or has a grand 'masterplan' of future dslr development.

All other brands are sticking to single format throughout their product range (dslr). The worst thing that could happen is another round of mount change by Canon. FD-mount users knows this best.
