recording data and starting up times are slow, not withstanding the slowest and fastest card imo. My rubber grip is starting to come off... the great part of this camera, almost everything else. the price now is all time low, 6mp is great my applications like food and stills. Its my backup camera, i own it for 2 years and it will continue to be in my stable until i fund another pro camera. The colours are great, quite user friendly. Rather reliable body.

may i know how long is the startup time??is is suitable to be used to shoot fast moving things like cars and planes...because that would be my main purpose for the cam...

What is your intended use?
Fast actions, you might be better off with 20D. Anything else it's good enuf. start up time about 3 sec. The prob with writing time is that the shutter released have to be "unpressed" before it can write to CF. Cars and planes, shouldn't be any prob. There are a few I know who use 10D to shoot fast birds in flight.

I also considered the 20D but it is not within my budget of below $1400.Now looking at the D70s or the 10D....presently, the 10D has the upper hand....coz i also like the L-lens of cannon....If I were to leave the camera on, will it drain a lot of battery power??....i mean just leaving it on without shooting...

its about 2 or 4 seconds, i know its long, since it does not consume batteries very much you can leave it long for a day's shoot. shooting cars and planes is more on techinque, cameras only have in a certain extend. In the olden days when cameras are manual ppl are still able to shoot planes and cars, the framerate is to help you increase your chances, but if you are slow, even 8 frames will not help. I know, i bought the 1D cos it got higher framerate but at the end i found out if you can predict your action then 1 frame is enough. Still its not a sports camera, its focusses fast but not pro cameras rate. You may want to look at a used 1D you aid you better in your work.

yes...I've tried the 1D...very impressed with the speed....but its way over my budget....as i am only a secondary student. i cant afford too high-priced cameras or lenses...I'm currently using the MF F301...so manual focus is not a problem for me....got used to it already....pardon this stupid question...but does it have a power svaing mode??

If you ask a PRO, he / she will tell you - what's the problem with rubber grip and so forth coming up, etc; equipment are meant to be used, not for displaying, etc. ![]() |

i am glad to say, all my sports shots have been done with the 10D, using all Canon glass. Samples in link below.
Edit: Minus underwater shots, those are taken with Olympus C4040 Last edited by sehsuan; 1st September 2005 at 11:06 AM. |

Summarize the key good points of 10D,
The key bad points (every camera has some, so just live with it and accept it)
All in all, the good points outweigh the bad, its still a great semi-pro body for the price u are paying now. 2 cts from a current 10D owner. And yes, I'll still be keeping it as a backup even if I do upgrade. |

its also my digital street camera, very quiet and discreet shutter. i just pop my 35mm and i'm ready to shoot. robust build, nice round shape, good weight, good size.
FYI 1D also hunts in low light, depends on the lens used as well. 10D viewfinder is hard for manual focusing but not impossible.

I still have mine somewhere in the dry cabinet, can't seem to bring myself to get rid of it.
Still a good cam, sound AF system, accurate metering, reasonable write/read speeds for a DSLR of its age. Good build quality, plenty of accessories available, great Canon L lenses and above all, really affordable now. Battery life is quite normal for a cam its age, best to get 3 or 4 spare batts. Each lasts an average of 300-400 frames with some use of the LCD for review. |
