Default Problem with Canon S1 IS: automatically shutdown in 1-2 minutes

Hi all,

I'm having an issue with my S1 IS. Even with fully charged batteries, it can only be powered up for 1 to 2 minutes then it just shuts down. I'm very worry about this and wonder if anyone encounters this problem before. Is it easy to repair it?

Thanks.

i even bought 4 pieces of Energizer e^2, still face the same issue. Quite sure that it's camera problem...

also, if battery issue camera should warn to change a new battery pack, but it is not the case...

All Canon's have auto off feature to conserve battery just in case you forget to switch off and find that the battery has been used up, esp if you have the LCD monitor on. You can turn if off I think.

Are you referring to that or battery running out and can't switch on again?

BTW, you should use rechargeables - much cheaper in the long run.

When you put in the fully charged batteries or new Energizer batteries, is the camera showing the battery level as low or full ?
If it is showing them both as low, maybe the battery contacts in ur camera has oxidized and u can bring it to canon service centre for cleaning.. should cost around $20-40.

With both new & fully charged battery pack , the camera doesn’t say that battery package is low. It can be turned on, but I couldn’t do anything since it just turns off after 1-2 minutes sometimes even less than 1 minute. It never happens before. It is not because of the auto save power since it turns off while I’m operating it.

It can only be turned on if I unload the batteries, load the same batteries again. Then it turns off again…

Ok something wrong then.
Only one thing to do - bring it to Canon and see how much it costs to repair.
Ask for a quote first before they repair so that you can say no if it is too much.

I got back my S1 IS from Canon Reparing service after about 4 working days. "It was due to an IC which controls power" said Canon. They changed for free. My warranty was over already.
