Many Malaysians (current as well as former) working and living here. Is it just a Chinese issue?

I think it's an economic issue. Malaysians in Singapore have the best of both worlds:

Earn in Singapore and send money back home to spend in Malaysia.

it used to be, but not anymore - even malays are leaving.
there's the economic issue (weak ringgit, current low oil price, cost of living etc) and then there's the increasing religious and racial fanaticism.

it's always ironic how diff marina mahathir is compared to her father.

It is an ego issue to be exact. Ask Mahatir and he is still fuming about this. haha

In my opinion, Malaysia is a great place to retire. However, should you be $ and locking up your $ is the question. Why not spend them there and if you decide it is time to move on, you don't have to worry you can't take it out?
