Default Canon 420ex ettl red led light

Hi every1, got a ques 2 ask, hope some1 can help, thanks
My canon 420ex ettl indicator led is lighted permanently in red when i on e 420ex power switch, even when i didnt connect it 2 my canon eos 30, is tis normal?
Cos i dicover manual states dat ettl indicator led will only light up when i half press e shutter button.
How 2 check whether my 420ex is firing in ettl or ttl?
Is my 420ex faulty?

So 420ex ettl indicator led light wont light up in red when not fitted on my eos 30
The indicator will only light up when it is connected to eos 30 with shutter button half press
How much would it cost if i send 4 repair?

is it set to slave mode? if it is, the red light will blink intermittently regardless of whether it is connected to a camera body...

Do u mean e AF assist beam emitter blinks once per sec continuously?
Maybe i did not explain myself clearly....
Wat im refering 2 is e ettl indicator led light jus above e row of autozoom position indicators
When i on my 420ex power switch, without attachment to my eos 30, ettl indicator on my 420ex lights up permanently
But manual states ettl indicator only lights up when shutter button is half press(mount on eos class A bodies, like eos 30, 50, etc)
Is my 420ex normal or faulty?

So does dat means my 420ex is not faulty?
Is perfectly normal 4 ettl indicator to light up in red permanently when power is switch on, even when e flash is not mounted on e cam
Correct me if im wrong

The E-TTL light will light up even if it is not mounted on a camera. If the camera you've mounted is on does not support ETTL, the indicator will not light up. To check whether it's in ETTL or TTL mode, simply check the indicator light before you shoot.
