Flash exposure compensation
Hi, I was just wondering how to know when to use the exposure compensation when using flash. Does it depend on the situation or time of day? Also, can I really trust the ttl metering from my flash?

Only one word : Experience.
It really, really depends on the situation and what you are trying to achieve. As to whether you can trust the TTL metering system, again it depends. The TTL 3D Matrix Balanced Fill Flash on my Nikon system never fails me for 99.9% of the time.
Know your system well, experiment, and it will come a time when you know what will work, what won't, how much to compensate, when to trust the TTL, when to override, etc.
