hi there sony users...
pardon me if my questions seem dumb. but i am new to this and am looking at buying a second hand semi pro digital camera and the following sony models came to mind, F828, F717, F707. I know the differences and features between those 3 models are quite varied. but likewise my budget as well. I am willing to settle for any of the mentioned models with the right price to match. i was wondering if you people could help me with regards to the second hand market for those cameras, what sort of price am i looking at for a standard package? i searched and browsed thru the market place forum as well, some of the threads are really really old and the prices quoted were like from a year back. what are the current second hand market prices like for the mentioned models? thanks for the help. any opinions with regards those mentioned models welcomed as well. =) |

for digital mostly price depreciate very fast.. for F828, maybe with 3mth to 6mth warranty should be 1k? no warranty left maybe 800?
for F717 (imho, better than F828, minus the zoom ring, minus the stupid build in lens IR) u can get maybe slightly lower, 600?, i think my fren chengsing selling... u can pm him... not trying to pull business for him, but i used both & thats how i felt, the extra 3mp doesn't make much of a difference..

I own the F707, it was the single biggest purchase in 2001 for me..
. Used it intensively for about 3 years... Between F717 and F707, optics appears to be the same. F717 sports a whitish body while F707 has a classy silver finish. The zoom button is horizontal on the F717. F717 has a true hotshoe that takes Sony's flashes while F707's hotshoe is just a holder (no contacts - flash sync takes place via a sync acc cable). The difference are so subtle between the F717 and F707, i chose not to upgrade to the F717 when it was introduced. The F828 was a BIG improvement over the F717/F707 series. I haven't have enough hands-on on the 828 to make any meaningful comparision though.

I used to have the 707 which gave me fantastic pictures.. the hotshoe of the 717 was really tempting for an upgrade..
When the 828 was announced, the optics and handling somehow didn't match my expectations and I went for a DSLR instead... |

f828 a 8mp with a 7x optical zoom wider than my 717 by around 10mm and of course can zoom much further.. also with a new 4 color sensor. with that it also is a much heavier body thou.
good day |

I remember dpreview saying that the 717 had improved high iso performance and faster focusing in normal bright conditions than the 707.
