It is meant for beginners and those not requiring high speed, ext. flashes (no pc sync) or use alot of heavy lenses (>1kg). There's more functions given compared to the film 5 (esp. MLU) With a 7D, you need to get into the menu much less often, the biggest diff to me when compared to 5D. |

Is the shutter sound coming from the D5 as loud as the D7? The shutter click for the 7D is rather loud and make the people around me rather conscious.

The shutter sound is quite loud to me. Have been using it for one week, so far so good, still learning how to use this DSLR.

Thanks for all your replies so far. There is nothing more valuable than an owners' feedbacks; they cut thru all the marketing and reviews bullshit.
Yes, the one thing that struck me about the 7D was its plethora of buttons. The 5D by comparison is minimal in that respect. I've been using my Dynax 7xi for over 20 yrs (a lot less in recent years) and for those who owns/had owned one, it's a minimalist when it comes to buttons---it uses a combo of buttons and front/rear dials for adjustments. Having said that, I know it's sorta like comparing apples and oranges as digital allows you to control and adjust more things (sometimes a bit too much). So as a casual shooter, I'm not that fuss with occassionally venturing into the menus as long as the frequently adjusted settings are easily and quickly accessible. Settings like ISO and WB comes to mind, and I believe the 5D does address them very well. WRT to shutter sound, the 7xi shutter sound is not that soft either---having said that, I'd expect improvements in that area after 20 yrs---but it's not something I'm terribly concerned about. I had a change to use the Nikon D70 for 48 hrs and by comparison, it's shutter sound is slightly softer than the 7xi. But it will still turn heads in a quiet room. At the end of the day, I'll probably be looking for the following: - fast response time (from startup to record) - focusing accuracy & speed - ease of selecting which focusing element - ease of WB & ISO settings - good colour balance I realise that some of these items also depend on the lens, but they would be my wish-list with the new DT lenses. |

OT: i can't be a wedding photographer if i don't make a lot of noise??
but the D70 shutter is still kinda noisy. esp compared to my F80 film SLR... if the 5D is worse, that's not too good for candids. |
