Hi all,
I am torn between the Canon A85 and Sony W5. Assuming the are both selling the same price, which is a better camera (in terms of features/picture quality) to buy? Why these 2 cameras? I love to use cameras that use AA NIMH batteries..... Appreciate your kind advise and especially those who have used these cameras... Thanks! Michael |

Sony W5 is better, longer battery life, (AA size), larger LCD screen, faster start up, more powerful build-in flash, the only problem, it is a Sony and so it uses Sony memory stick!

Got a serious new consideration, can the W5 do IR pics?

hi, sorry, hijack your thread here...hope you don't mind, but since you mention Sony W5, here's one shot taken by W5, for your reference..
And for your information, 1set of battery for me last for at least one whole day for sightseeing trip, at least. And I am the kind of "photographer" who turns the camera on and off, on and off and keep on reviewing the pictures... so it really last.![]() |

My goodness! Is this an IR pic? If it is, I am off to Cathay to grab a W5 now!

I love my W5 for the luxurious 2.5" LCD. Trust me, you'll love the big screen.
The image quality is good, but it can't satisfy my needs for night shooting. Since we're on the theme of marine aquatics, I shall post some of my favourite shots, using the W5: ![]() ![]() ![]() Beautiful Redang: ![]() ![]() There're MPEG-1 videos as well, but I'm not sure if you guys are interested. |

Some modest local shots...
![]() ![]() Cathay will only 'ka toh' you... I did an MO for Sony W5 in June. At that time we got it for $510 nett at SLS. Go check it out... The shop is on level 1. But too bad the free 256mb Memory Stick offer has lapsed. If you need 1gb Sony Memory Stick Pro or Duo, i can refer you to the seller we got from.

Thanks for all your recommendations. My concern is whether I can take satisfactory IR shots with the W5. Used a Oly C2100 that is very IR sensitive and can typically take hand held shots with shutter speeds of 1/60 to 1/125!
Any feedback on IR capabilities of W5 would be appreciated.... |
