    Default A40 Aperture Qs

Which settings will produce a better DOF?

Manual settings @ F4.8 ? or Auto Settings?

When you say better DOF, do you mean shallower or deeper DOF? In any case, the bigger the f number, the deeper the DOF.

auto-settings u should know u can't do much on it right? if u want to get deeper DOF, use larger F value, read more here

Regardless of settings, any f number bigger than f/4.8 will produce deeper DOF. So will f/4.8 compared to say f2.8. However, on auto settings, cameras usually don't select a smaller aperture.

Yes, it does varies with lighting conditions. Try metering with your lens cap on, it'll be wide open. Take the cap off and it most probably would be a different aperture.
