Yes that is a problem but I am a little confused if maddog is talking about connecting to Skynetglobal or just want to know about Firefox tab.....

anyone remembered the 1984 mac commercial?
    http://www.duke.edu/~tlove/mac.htm

With mac, it's either u like it or u don't like it. All macs look the same; even their users think the same.

Back to the commercial... bleah... just to bring back some old memories...

(for those wanting to switch between intra-application windows)

better yet, get this application called "witch". it gives you alt-tab functionality just like in windows, entirely customisable. go to macupdate.com and search for it.

expose also has a function to show all windows within an application. look under system preferences > dashboard and expose.

imho i cannot live without expose and dashboard saves me many minutes a day.

i sure think switching from a pc to a mac platform was one of the best things i ever did. Everything about it is so intuitive. Not to mention it is a soild machine for colour proofing.

Urm... no need to use Witch, pressing Alt-Tab on Mac will switch you between apps.

yup..this is what u will see when u press alt-tab

u can either click on the icon or press the tab again (while holding on alt) to select the application

then release alt-tab to display it

Thanks Wai for the graphical illustration I see you're using Adium also

Was told previously if you did a Alt-Ctrl-Del on OS9, it would prompt "wrong operating system", now on OS X nothing happens. And time to clear your email too. Hahah.

Aiyoh. Windows NT 3.1 has this feature since 1993. Windows 2000 has it in 1999, before MacOS X (which came out in Mar 2001) and XP makes it even easier, switch between users when >1 account is logged on...

FYI, unlike all unix derivatives, NT-based derivatives can have individual rights and permission to objects and actions whereas unix and the derivation is all or nothing; root or user. Before all the comments of "can and cannot" comes out, please read up.

No need, cursor can also select the expose windows. I use my keyboard cursors to get to the window, press enter, it will activate that window.

Very useful feature, try it when opening > 10 JPEGs in PS. You'll love it.

Linux had it long ago too... switching users means requiring to login ad admin, makes the changes then bail out.

For Mac OS X, Linux, all you need is just to 'sudo' or 'su -' and you have all the administrative powers.

Also it's good security to prompt. If windows prompted, then I won't be having my PC infiltrated with bloatware/spyware.

Not true, Unix has groups, users and root. You can allocate the rights and permissions to objects via chown and chmod. You can set read-write-execute on directories, files and you can specify users, groups to allocate the permissions to.
