hmm.... I just mount the Slik Ballhead (compact version) on the quick release plate. The whole assembly is sturdy enough to support the S602Z with external flash. Larger ballheads maybe too much for the tripod.....

anything wrong with what I'm doing?

Thanks in advance!

that's quite cheap for the U8000. I wanted something lighter, so got the U6600 instead. didn't try to bargain very hard for it though

what I did will work for light cameras though. I doubt SLRs with big zoom lenses would be stable.

You're welcome

I got it for $35 (GST included). Specs (Slik compact ball head) are here:
http://www.thkphoto.com/catalog/s/ba...deo_hesds.html

Manfrotto has a similar one, 342 and a smaller one, 210B. Both costs around $35 too.
http://www.manfrotto.com/products/me...bcategoryid=34

Cathay Photo didn't have 342 when I went down and I was reommended the Slik one. The salesman told me the Slik one has a bigger ball and is smoother. dunno how true though.

some other ballheads.....
1) Manfrotto 352 Ballhead @ S$42.00
2) Manfrotto 352RC @ S$61.00

Sry, but out of curiousity, may i know what is the ball head use for in this case?

Issit becos it is becos the ball head will be able to allow some functions which the original tripod is unable to do?

Thx,
Revolution.

it allows 3 degree movement just by moving the camera...

but I always thought the panning will suffer from deviation. Anyone advise on this?

dun think so... those built for head changing have the pin on the column itself... while the pan head types are molded to the column. At least for the budget tripods...
