Default House Fly

Hi guys.. this is my first attempt taking macro picture and also my first time posting pictures in this forum. Hope you guys can give me some comments.
Took this picture with my a-month-old Finepix S5500 with macro lens.
Apologise for its non-sharpness and newbie shot. This is the best pictures among 20+ shots.

Hi Belano! Welcome to the macro forum.

I think, as you are aware, the eyes are not sharp, and eye sharpness are quite a key feature to note in macros. Composition is very impt also, but if the eyes are not sharp, it would not be too nice.

Not sure what CU lens you used, but the edges seems distorted...is it a single element lens, like the HOYA?

Also, it woudld help if you post the camera settings so that we can comment better.

When using CU lens, the DOF is very shallow, so its quite hard to get the point of focus you want. One method that can be used is the body sway method, where the camera is in MF, and you sway your body until the image apprears sharp on your camera LCD, and than snap.

Well, that are just my 2c. I think there are many better qualified pp to provide their comemnts1

BTW: its a green blow fly and not a house fly.

Hi, thats a fast response. Really grateful for that.
I am using Giottos Macro lens.
ISO - 200, Shutter Speed - 0.5s, f4.5

Wonder if anyone has tried taking macro pictures using Finepix S5500 too?

0.5s is too slow for macro unless you use tripod and cable release. f4.5 is also too big for macro unless you prefer shallow DOF. Try to use f8 and faster shutter speed to reduce 'shake'. A flash with diffuser or bounce will helps in your macros

Cheers
