Hi,
just need comments from current F80 users if the camera feels fragile to you?Like experiences in getting dents or crack on body after you drop it from some where not very high..or camera gets soaked internally with your own perspiration due to "visually" large gaps around the joints :P.. and the likes.. Been wanting to upgrade to F80 due to the lower price.. but after trying out an F100 recently.. im just confused as if its worth 2 F80's money to get the F100( though i really love it).But the F80 looks really filmsy to me..Currently using F70. Thanks. |

If I were to choose, I would go for the F100 if I can afford it. And in my opinion, yup, it's worth the money (you get faster and more accurate AF systems, among other things).

f80 isn't really an upgrade from the f70. if the f70 still works, wait and save for f100.

Erwinx.. you use to be a F70 user right? In comparison.. with F80.. nothing is better other than G lens compatibility in all modes?

i have no regret to use F100, the only regret is i should have start to use F100 earlier ... to switch from F80 to F100 is easy as there is not much new technical functions to learn. ( much of it is the same except the 5 point metering system ; i notice the light is smaller ... ) F100 is faster than F80 and that is for sure ... F80 is lighter than F100 and to some extent i was able to shoot a decent photo using F80 under low light condition with 10 seconds without tripod. F100 will need more skill to handle without tripod for shutter speed less than 10. Unless you hand are superb "still" ... F80 is a bit noisy than F100 ... the motor sound sucks !! at first i dun know until i learning to take animals ... sigh ... well F100 has the same problem thr .. but reduced !! ( silent motor still the best .... hee hee ; please take note : F100 is not totally silent ) |

Read that you are using a F70.
F80 have some function than F70 dun have. Go read them up and decide if they are impt to you. If you have spare cash, it's better to upgrade the lens or save it. Unless, you can get a F80 for real cheap.. and sell off your F70 @ a very little loss... Then, that another story altogether.

no wonder darth vader short of breath... always carry F5 and a few VR 500/1200 etc with him... and got battery pack on his chest
he clutch his hand to show he got F _5_, then the minor guards died gasping for breath from fatal envy...

The F80 is my first SLR cam. Been using it for a while now and I love everything about it (except for the 1/125 flash sync speed vs F100's 1/250 and the 1/2 stop EV vs 1/3 for the F100). Well it is a little flimsy but that is fine by me. Trade off between weight and toughness.
![]() Thought about upgrading to the F100 for a while but decided that those 2 reasons were not good enough for me to spend $2000+ for an upgrade. Don't get me wrong here, I am not saying that I will never buy an F100. Just not now. Like the others were saying, if you are using an F70 then there is no point "upgrading" (if you call it an upgrade) to the F80. Save the $$$ for an F100 or buy a used F90X(about same price as a brand new F80) Just my 10 cents (my 2 cents are free).

A friend of mine got the little joystick thingy at the back broken off after a month of use. Fortunately it was a new F80 and under warranty so it was repaired. So... you might want to get one with a warranty.
