it's impossible for me to forget mine. I treat it as my 'wife' (all those who've been thru ns will understand since it's about the same weight )

Reminded me of a quick DIY setup that I used when I could not afford a monopod for better stability. What you need:

    1) 2 X Large Tarya Inner Linings Rubber Band (those that you used on your army helmet)
    2) 1 X Elastic band with hooks on both ends (those that are used to secure helmet on motor cycles).

    How to use:

    1) Hook one rubber band on your lens.
    2) Hook the other on your left foot.
    3) Link both bands up with the Elastic band with hooks.
    4) Shoot pix with normal posture.

You just added another pivot point for stability.

    Principle:

With both hands, you only have two pivot points for stability. One hand provides the downward force and the other the upward force to stabilise your camera. With the setup anchored down by the elastic bands to your foot in between both of your hands which provides the two upward force, you have three pivot points.

You spend less than $3 for this setup.

    He remains a mystery....

With or without tripod, the essence here is to make do or improvised and go according to situation...

If you're going on a shoot, it's always good to prepare your equipment the night before, and to check your equipment before leaving the house. My QR plate is always screwed on, unless I'm using a flash bracket. When not in use, the QR plate and alan key is always in my camera bag.

    i hate, i hate, i hate tripods.

5 second exposure for fireworks without a tripod, without remote release without shaking? no problem...
