Default Infrared View: City Evening - 8 August 2005

Took a stroll after work on 8 August from Orchard Road to the Esplanade and shooting exclusively with my Sony F828 fitted with IR72 filter, processed to black and white. Sony F828's nightshot produces green tones that doesn't enable IR colouring like other cameras.

View the entire series in my Infrared Gallery.

NIce, IR always looks good in BW. If the trees didn't block the tower, would make a nicer pix. Maybe you want to crop the lower portion of the esplanade pix. The girl and the wall seems distracting. Just my 2 cents. Hope to see you when there a outing.

Thanks for your comments. I've decided to frame the trees in for the first shot coz it's an IR shot - the trees make the difference or it would look like another B/W shot.

You are right that the girl looked distracting, but at that moment this is the least (traffic) I can get especially when it's National Day eve. I'll probably remove her off using PS.... hmmm maybe I should

Hi pianodancer,

I guess it is to each his own. I like the girl in the photo (though I have never met her ).

It gives something else to the photo. (you were using teerex's tripod ? ).

As with many photo's...and it can't be circumvented in many cases... the similar scene has been used often and with good results such as yours.
Therefore the running girl adds another look at it.

I hope this comment is not taken wrongly by anyone just my view.

Thanks Pablo. In any case, here's the no-girl version. Now everyone's happy

Hi Pianodancer, What I meant is the trees is nice as it worked as a frame for the pix, but some part of it blocks the top of the tower. Nonetheless, its still pretty good composition compare to some I've seen here. At least I can see what your subject is.

Hi Pablo, The girl would be nice if she meant something to the pix. Just my 2 cents.

OIC, thanks for clarifying. In that case, you are right about the tree comment. The only way for me to capture the shot without the trees blocking is to step onto the road - not when traffic is heavy during the evening.

Hi Pianodancer, Max is right... if the tree didn't block the hotel, it will be nicer. 2nd shot attract me more, I prefer it without the girl. I think if the trees are brighter/whiter, it will add more mood to the IR shot. Just my thought.

Good try and hope you can join us next outing.

Cheers!
