Finally! After several false starts, I've managed to convert my old D70 to a pure infrared camera.
All thanks to the information found in these sites: http://www.digitalweddingforum.com/u...56&an=0&page=0 http://www.jr-worldwi.de/photo/index.html?modding.html http://www.ebb.ns.ca/general/tech/infra-red.htm This is a quick test shot: ![]() This was taken in overcast, very cloudy (no sun) conditions but take a look at the shot details: Lens: D70 Kit Lens (Nikkor 18-70mm AF-S f/3.5-4.5G) Aperture: f/4.2 Shutter: 1/800s Exp Comp: +1.0 (metering with the replacement R72 is inaccurate, it was 1/1250 with exp comp) ISO: 200 Focal: 34mm WB: CWB done with ExpoDisc Under such conditions, a non-IR-converted camera would require an exposure time of 2 to 3 seconds. This would mean that the camera is now suitable for candid and portrait IR shots. The actual conversion process was really simple, once you overcome the initial fear. The most difficult part of the conversion was the replacement of the base cover as the rubber USB cap stopper had to be slotted in the right location. Cheers, Matt |

I cut a regular Hoya R72 down to the correct size. Edmond Optics insisted on having an order of at least 25 pieces before they would do a custom sized filter. You could however order their Long Pass filter and easily cut that down to size as it is made from some polycarbonate and not glass. Cheers, Matt |
