I dun think problems if any will surface so quickly. If it does, really shows the standard of Nikon's QC on the cam. and yes, I think some shops are already stocking the 55-200.

none so far, as in dpreview.

HWZ just rated it 9/10 (gold award) in this mth's HWZ mag (in so much as u believe in HWZ's ratings). both dpreview and steves-digicams as 'highly recommended'.

http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond50/page26.asp
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_...n_d50_pg8.html

still waiting for wat Thom Hogan has to say abt it.

After dingdong in this forum for more than a year looking at posts, i bought the camera last week in the run in to NUS Rag n Flag, exhausted the 1gb SD card and so far, just in love with the camera. For a beginner, it really means alot to finally own a dslr. No problems with copying cause my laptop has a built in SD reader. Camera din **** up over 4 days usage and start up is absolutely great. Batt power currently still full although heaviest usage was on the day itself under really hot weather. Still, camera functioned as it should. I heard from my China hallmates that the kit in China comes with BOTH of the new lenses. How can Nikon do that....

Though I just own the D50 for abt a week. I love its size and built. I got it at MS Color for $1430w/gst. Comes with a 1gb SD card and a free bag from Nikon and a UV filter from MS Color. I know the price I'm getting is more expensive than some of the guys here. But I feel that it is worth every cents. It don't have some more advanced feature of the D70/D70s. But this small 'little brother' is just a the right price and size for beginners DSLR owner.

Just buy the camera and go out and shoot and worry about 'bugs' and other problems later. All electronics have 'bugs'.

Have done so in the reportage and sports section, please do comment!

I think the price for Obewan is still good. A shortchange of 20-30 isn't really much to be stressed over, maybe losing out on one or two uv filters for additional lenses but then again, after forking out 1.4K for a cam, arghs have to fork out some more for lenses!! Not so soon ... Other than that, the size of the camera is really nice for me because I have really ladylike hands (can challenge girls in terms of smootheness wor. Don't ask me why I also do housework and go thru army). The weight is a tad light but makes it all the more handy. Did i mention i love this cam?

nah. dun fork out for lenses first until u get the hang of using the cam. ur kit lens will last u a while, as u learn wat works and wat doesn't when u take photos. u can save a bit too by keeping an eye out for good 2nd-hand deals on CS.

obewan - okie lah, the price. are u first-time customer with MS? they are pretty nice folks to buy from. the new nikon bag shiok, rite? i saw it at the service centre recently.. dang. felt it was much better than the previous free bag (the domke F2 clone).

Not really a first time customer with them. I stay nearby. I previously own a FZ10 and do get some accessories from them sometimes. I also have read many good comments from CS abt their services. I send an e-quote to them. When I went to the shop and they tell me D50 is selling for $1450. Then I tell them the e-quote is only $1430 and with a UV filter free. So e-quote is cheaper. I had intended to get another lens, but their advice for me is get familiar with the camera and the kit lens, before going further. Good advice Unlike some dishonest sales people who will hurry you into buying more stuff from them.

you talked to florence, or one of the staff? personally, i like to talk to either jackson or florence.

usually, if u are a regular, and as long as the shop is not too busy, they are always willing to advice on your purchase. sometimes, there's always a discrepency with their e-quote and on-the-spot price. best to get a e-quote (if possible) b4 going. normally, i buy most of my stuff from them, except for some hard-to-find items like polarizers, or camera bags. this i bo pian have to go places like CP to get as they dun stock them in bulk at their shop.

I got a e-quote for cathay photo $1305 before GST. Bring the mail to MS, see they can also lower their price cos sunday cathay no open

The answer is No. Have to wait one more day to go cathay to buy the camera.

How come the different so big ? 70$ different. Will cathay play the same trick as computer shop in SLS ??

I speak to one of the staff, then when I mention e-quote, a lady approaches me and said that she was the one who had received my e-quote and asked me the date and my name. I think the e-quote had her name sign off as florence.

I also noticed the difference. the price provide by CP is 1305 $ without GST. the free gift are only one 1G SD card, and there is no Nikon bag.

the price provided by MS is 1430 $ with GST, the free gifts include one SD card, one Nikon bag and one filter.

I don't know why there is no Nikon bag in the list of gifts provided by CP.

There is still no report of anyone experiencing the blinking Green Light of Death(BGLOD) with the D50 in the major forum like DPreview.

HTH.
