It does not double the CF card's capacity. The counter has been tweaked to more accurately reflect the average size of an NEF file. The old firmware was very conservative in this respect. The number used to update after each shot. For example, before you shoot, it might show '46'. After taking a shot, it might still show '46'. With 2.0, the counter is more accurate. The number of shots you can take will be more or less the same.

D70 with the new firmware got more storage. The menu looks different... I liked it. Fast and efficient service.

Nope, your storage didn't increase. Still the same, it's just the reporting size been fixed. Read the changes/bugfix list on the site.

If I am not mistaken, the new firmware would also encode some EXIF information. If I remember correctly, it would be the WB setting. Please correct if I am wrong.

I used to be able to capture 95 Raw pictures with an empty 1Gb CF card, now it is reporting 179 images possible at Raw.

To me that is an increase of 84 more Raw images with a 1 Gb CF card. Worth to upgrade definitely.

Yep... just read the following from Nikon website:

"The number of exposures remaining, displayed in the control panel and viewfinder, when shooting at an image-quality setting of NEF (RAW) or NEF+JPEG Basic has been changed (the number is calculated based on the size of compressed RAW file)."

But still liked the new menu though
