What about the Sigma 170-500? Or Tamron SP 200-500?

about 800-900 new. But f5-6.3, not feasible unless you always shoot under bright sun.

If i was to choose between Sigma 50-500 and tamrom 200-500... i will take the tamron... the Sigma one does not churn out sharp images...

This two pic was taken with Sigma 50-500mm & D70, handheld (not enough time to set up tripod) and with SB600.

Most modern lens is sharp, if u know how to use it correctly.
