Default Avatar dimension

It was previously 100 x 100 pixels but it has now reduced to 80 x 80 pixels. Is this the new rule?

Thanks.

will it be back to 100x100 pixels? 80 seems a little small.

Due to bandwidth and storage space issues, we have reduced the avatar dimensions to 80x80 pixels and max filesize of 10KB (previously was 100x100 pixels and 15KB) as of our last forum software update.

Any possibility of 100x100 pixels yet retaining the 10KB filesize?

Suggestion: how about future avatar updates to use external link than to allow uploading to the server? vbulletin has this function if i'm not mistaken and this should save a lot of disk space.

Last I checked, vbulletin does not have a function to use external link for custom avatars, perhaps I'm wrong.

Nevertheless, you have to consider things other than disk space usage, a bigger avatar also consumes more bandwidth, which is more important an issue than disk space.

Yes, you are wrong, all totally.
vBulletin do provide function for externally linked avatar and yet is able to control dimensions and file size.
Bandwidth will be consumed from where the picture was uploaded to and does not consume bandwidth from ClubSnap servers.
FYI, dimension of a picture does not equated to the resulted filesize.
I can create a 200x200 pixels and a 100x100 pixels of the same picture at the filesize (KB).

about to give the same answer as you too...

something to add on... overall the idea is it does not suck bandwidth from clubsnap server... but that depends on your host server also, if your host server is slow, the loading of the page would be slow as well.. and would not be optimal to the overall viewing pleasure... cos u will keep seeing Downloading in progress (just for that avatar that somebody uploaded to a sucky host)

Yes, you're right. since CS provides every user some space in the gallery, you can still upload there and link as your avatar.

den its back to square one already... think CS is running into a bandwidth problem... cos too many members but too little bandwidth... if they link to gallery den isn't it better to link to the vbulletin avatar folder? since its sharing the same server...

i dun mind using my own host for my avatar..

btw just a suggestion, i think there is a function in vbulletin that can restrict file size/pixel size for avatar image loaded into vbulletin & also a separate file size specs for those using external host. maybe we can allow users using external host to use bigger avatar size, and those using the CS host to limit themselves..

Yup, its not exactly back to square one. when you upload the avatar, it uploads to a seperate location that takes up an extra 10KB of disk space. The gallery already has a default allocated disk space which is different from the usual avatar uploads.

vBulletin do allow restrictions on the dimension and filesize of avatars whether or not you upload in into CS servers or linked it externally. It still checks.

There's a demo available at http://www.vbulletin.com/admindemo.php from just a sign up away. You'll be able to see the full functionality of their latest version of vBulletin including the admin panel.

Yeap I'm sure. By the way, if it isn't clear, I'm not referring to you being wrong in this thread.

Cheers!

don... hehehe.. i got use b4 lah... hence i know the features...

but i think loading into gallery, with the current gallery system, would create a chaos, imagine seeing pics that are randomly up with some big some small, den some ppl leech images from anime as avatar...

Nope, I'm not saying you're saying that I'm wrong. Gosh, confusing.
What you mentioned was "bigger avatar consumes more bandwidth", I agree.
But, my request was having a 100x100 pixels avatar but filesize restriction still stays at 10KB instead of 15KB. This will defintely not affect the new rule set by the administrators. Hence, bandwidth consumption retains at the current settings.

Hope I didn't confuse anyone.

Yah, i agree that 100x100 but retain 100kB max good.
When I scroll thru a post looking for a specific post, I usually scan thru the avatars to look for that person. Bigger avatar helps.
