For anyone intending to get a powerful flash, the Nikon SB24 works great using the auto mode. There're 6 auto apertures for ISO 200 (F2.8, F4, F5.6, F8, F11, F16) with the first 5 matching those available in the S602Z. The flash also has settings for ISO1600.
GN is 50m at 85mm zoom. ISO100, quite a bit higher than that of the other popular ones: Vivitar 285HV (GN43m at 105mm, ISO100), Metz 32Z-1 (GN37m, 85mm, ISO100) and Sunpak Super 383 (GN37m 35mm, ISO100). Under manual mode, you can adjust the power output to 1/16. Only second hand ones are available now though. But if you can find one cheap, it's great value for money. Other Nikon models (e.g. SB25, SB26) will work well too but they're likely more expensive and any additional features don't work with the S602Z. Weight is 390g without batteries. I think it'll work perfectly on the F717 too using the auto mode and is much more powerful than Sony's only TTL flash. |

Completely new to flashes, is there any primers/intros that I can read on flashes and the various jargon for the specs?? (What's GN?!?) TIA!

You need to calculate the exposure via GN, then make sure your shutter speed is low enough for the strobe to fire off.

1. power (a more powerful flash allows you to bounce the flash more effectively, it also gives you a longer flash coverage) 2. flexibility (the greater the number of auto-aperture, the more flexibility you have for controlling DOF) 3. build quality 4 light sensor (more expensive ones usually come with better light sensors to ensure accurate exposure) 5. features like swivel sideways and tilt up or down Last edited by mpenza; 4th October 2002 at 01:53 PM. |

condition of the flash is great NitroTech took good care of it ![]() external flash is essential when you want to use fast shutter to minimise camera shake and freeze motion. it also gives you flexibility to be more creative with using light. The article below gives some good ideas ![]() http://www.metz.de/1_metz_2000/m_pag...name=mecablitz Last edited by mpenza; 4th October 2002 at 01:46 PM. |
