The Times, The Telegraph, The Independent and The Mail all reporting Man Utd interest in William Carvalho, very strange, something's happening ...

Manchester United consider £24m bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho

Manchester United have spoken to Sporting Lisbon about central midfielder William Carvalho as the ailing club try to beef up their squad before the transfer window closes on Monday.
Manager Louis van Gaal needs reinforcements after a desperate start to the season that has seen his team take just a point from two Barclays Premier League games and crash out of the Capital One Cup 4-0 at League One MK Dons.
The Dutchman is keen on a deal for Juventus and Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal, but United are also in contact with Sporting about Carvalho after the Portuguese club dropped their asking price to £23.8million.

It is unlikely United will buy both players and chief executive Ed Woodward is concerned rival clubs will try to take advantage of United’s crisis by demanding inflated prices.
He is also aware he has competition for Carvalho from Arsenal, who can offer the Portugal star European football.
However, Van Gaal has made his needs clear in recent days and Woodward has permission from owners the Glazers to spend big once again after the British record £60m paid by United to Real Madrid for Angel di Maria this week.
United only concluded a deal with Lisbon for defender Marcos Rojo last week and have concerns about getting involved again after the protracted nature of that deal.

Equally, though, they have concerns over Vidal’s knee after it needed surgery last season and they at least know their good relationship with Portuguese agent Jorges Mendes could help them get a deal done for 22-year-old Carvalho.
Meanwhile, United have interest in Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck from ‘five or six’ clubs and either could leave before Monday. Welbeck, understandably, would prefer to go to a club at the top end of the league while Cleverley may choose to run his contract down.
United also have offers for Japan playmaker Shinji Kagawa but perhaps unsurprisingly are struggling to move on Brazilian failure Anderson.
The club will officially unveil Di Maria on Thursday and he will go straight into the team for Saturday’s game at Burnley.

I never like this kind of mass buy and sell (lol). But i guess ferguson's era of stability is gone and now have to just deal with it.

Come to think of it whatever wherever it is when new management take over they would like to have their own people ... Be it in a company a new team etc... Esp after SAF legacy there will be people not used to not having SAF around so mentally they are not the same for average ppl esp those with him for long times.

Agree. But it seems Zaha has some attitude issues.

Kagawa is a real pity. Just like Veron.

Amidst all the mess. It still shows how good Ferguson is when it comes to player management.

Agree. In the past I always thought how good Man Utd players were. This turmoil proves that I am wrong, and, at the same time raises SAF status to demi-god to me. He was right. It was never about Stam, Nistelrooy, Keane, or Ronaldo.

It makes me wonder - how the same team (more or less) managed to secure premier league titles under SAF, but crumbles under Moyes (who is actually a good manager, seriously) and Van Gaal (touch wood, the season is still long).

I think the top management wants to give LVG a free hand to rebuild the entire team, hence the wholesale changes. This will be a season of rebuilding, so fans need to be patient.

Actually what we really need is Chelsea's scouting department. They have turned Abramovich's funds into a lasting competitive advantage.

Our two-time player of the year Mata is now playing for you, and Di Maria has broken Torres' transfer fee record. Looks like we have much in common.

Except Chelsea seems to keep finding young players that they can stash away at their Dutch reserve team, Vitesse, in the official reserve team and in various Premier League teams. And then sell them for a profit later.

That is not something United is doing a lot of unfortunately.

Saf had scholes and giggs, vidic, Ferdinand and evra while winning. Once they are gone, so did the midfield and defence.
Carrick is still a.good passer and holder fwiw.
Lvg has nobody of that caliber.
Moyes should have done better if he could command the dressing room.

Come to think of it, we never had a German defender or midfielder.
