Default Best settings for Outdoor Model Shoots

I'm using a Canon 10D digital SLR with a 1.6x lens factor. Can anyone advise what is the best choice of lens (28mm, 50, 100mm, etc?) and wat aperture setting for a day-time, outdoor modelling shoot (could also be for wedding albums, etc).

I dun think there is any fixed settings for portrait using any specific type of lens. Usually, the shorter the focal length, the more prominent the distortion and that may make subjects unflattering. However, superb results may be obtained if you can put its characteristic to good use.
If you understand my works, it's photography. If you don't, it's art.
