Default I went for a drive

Hi guys,
I had the day off work. I had to call into work in the morning and then took a few detours on the way home.

The first pic was taken on the Brisbane Highway just out from Caboolture....

I'm not expert on IR, and a infantile newbie into this field of photography. I like images 0659 and 0676. Hmm... I thought green grass/leaves will always turn white? No?

I noticed you have Nikon D70 and Canon EOS20D. Does D70 have an advantage over 20D for IR? Is the 20D kit lens really useless for IR? I got hotspot at the widest focal length.

I can't practise much of IR because many of the winter days in Melbourne are cloudy.

Hi Jemapela,

Thank you for your reply and comments.

The major advantage the D70 has over the 20D for IR is exposure times.
I can take a shot with the D70 handheld that would require at least 3sec exposure time on the 20D.

One of the reasons I bought the 20D was to take IR photo's and it does them well, but, I was seeing
photo after photo taken handheld from IR friends like "teerex" and simply had to get one.

I did find that the kit lens was bad for hot spots on the 20D (a bit to do with the exposure time I think).
What I did find though (through suggestion by "tomcat") was the EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens !

Never gave any hot spot and shorter exposure time (still in the seconds range though).

I would suggest trying this lens as it is not expensive and will give you better IR shots.

The white effect given to leaves etc is quite dependant on the "custom white balance" also with the post processing of the shot through Photoshop or alike.

I have fallen into the world of "I will see how the last CWB goes" rather than pre-set it each time I go our shooting IR.

Setting the CWB on different plants (different greens) at different times of day will influence the end result. Though maybe not enough that it cant be adjusted for after.

Cheers.
Cheers.

Hey, I really like the first one (not because I like roads). I like you compo.
Jem, try to practice here in Belgium, !! You will have the 4 seasons in 1 day
For the moment it's summer and all I can see is rain and clouds.
the sunny days are the one when I MUST work !!!!

Will be soon on vacation and back on the field (for a IR beginner).

Hi PandaOng,

Thanks for the comment !

I am glad you like them.

It is quite a sleepy place where that shot was taken.

Cheers.

Hi Pablo,

Thanks so much for your advice and information.

I'm actually keen on buying the 50mm but I want a IR-compatible wideangle lens because of the 1.6x crop factor. You know any Canon or Canon-compatible wideangle lens (about 28mm equivalent)? What lenses have you tried and found ok?

Is it totally ok? No hotspot at widest focal length and across all apertures?

Due to limited funds, I've been considering the Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di IF Aspherical instead of the Canon 17-40mm f/4L. I have read reviews that both lenses are optically on par, if the Tamron isn't better.

Would you happen to know if the Tamron performs ok for IR?
