Very difficult question to answer...
Assuming that you have the 350D kit lens already, I would suggest the sigma 70-300mm APO II Macro lens. Cheap and good at $250 thereabouts (used).

If you are lucky u might get one at $450. 70-300mm is a wise choice too but if you don't like a long lens or don't like to carry 2 lens out, then it's not for u.

Again I must say this, look back at your previous photos, what type of range do you shoot, then u will know what lens you need.

Depends on what you want to shoot. You don't want to end up spending money on a lens that you're not comfortable with. "Standard" walkabout lenses include 28-105mm/28-135mm etc. You can refer the "Canon EOS SLR system Newbie guide." for a list of a couple of recommended lenses.

I think most of the lenses we are talking about these days are for EF mount (AF), unless we are talking about FD mount or other earlier model...

Since your budget is $400, you can get a used Sigma 70-300mm APO II Macro for ~$250 or new at ~ $330.
70-200mm are way too far from your budget ![]() |

I think the optimum for this range is 70-200mm or 80-200mm. Anything beyong 200mm, the quality is off I think. |
