Lower the standard, so more can pass.. Are we accepting mediocrity here? :-(

At some point the cost of retest after retest is not worth the taxpayers money.

Many countries outsource combat to private mercenaries all the time.

To maintain the records of xx% passing the test you have two choices: chase after family men and office warriors to keep their fitness level or lower the threshold. What is cheaper? What is likely to improve the public opinion of the beloved National Service?

The day we actually do serious training for 100% of NSMen... and not just a portion of them.

The reality is that the previous set of tests and standards has done little to help the fitness levels of NSmen who couldn't pass. They would end up dragging themselves to complete all 20 sessions of RT, and still leave no closer to passing than when they first started. Repeat year after year till NS obligations are fulfilled.

It's a good thing that they are willing to assess the situation on the ground, and tweak what has clearly not worked, and not stubbornly stick to a 'standard' for the sake of it.

Anyway, unless they increase the passing time for 2.4 & situps significantly, it's too early to say if the standard has necessarily been lowered.

    Is local food the reason?

Haha... other cultures don't have food meh?? It's called 'life'. I'm sure you'll get a similar picture when you compare the average guy from any other part of the world when he's in his 30s to when he was 18-21.

That's something I was wondering as well. It doesn't need much looking around to find people who obviously cannot fulfill the requirements. And it would take more than a few weeks of jogging instead of dinner to get them into shape.
