Default Life Span of CCD

What a luck, brought out my A1 from the cabinet and discovered that the camera is not working. THe preview screen is giving a fuzzy/blurr image. However, the fuzzy/blurr image is kind of aimage in vertical line only (not horizotal). Thought the preview screen was not working but after download the image on the PC, no different.

Went down to Furnan and let the tech check the camera. Within one minute, a lady tech came out with my camera and told me CCD is gone. Before getting there I already know they will said that. Since the fuzzy/blurr image was kind of a veritcal line image, I asked her whether could that due to AS problem. From her look, I think she did not even notice the "vertical line image" phenomenen and start saying my camera may have gotton knocked (impact) and caused the CCD to damage. She even said that she did not mean I dropped the camera but the camera may be knocked onto someone in a crowed place. I replied that is this how fragile KM camera is. Don't tell me someone knock my camera and I didn't even notice. Now her reply was really more funny. She said the knocks have a ccumulative effect on the CCD.

In the end, I just gave up talking to her and ask for it to be repaired.

BTW, my A1 is less than 1.5 year old and less than 4000 shutter actuations.

Cost of transportation to KM workshop = $5

Cost of having a meal ard that area = $10

Cost of changing the CCD = $250

Cost of talking to the counter girl = PRICELESS!

Try to "warm up" your camera weekly or so. Got a guy here A1 spoil after a year, you are not the only one.

Maybe Kcsum is just plain unluckly or the A1 models suffer from bad QC or bad design.

I have a Minolta Dimage 5 which I have bought in 2002, which I am still using today (though less now since I bought the 7D). I estimated that I would have taken about 40,000 shots since I purchased it 3 years ago.

There is another thread in Dpreview under the Olympus forum (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...hread=14333210) which gave an estimate that the E1 is rated up to 100,000 to 150,000 exposures.

I wonder how many exposures the D7 can provide?

I hope it is more than 100,000-150,000 shots on 7D...

Anyway... will see.

Hahaa... mine just got to 9500 yesterday after 4 months of using... damn, I lost my plastic cover... I guess if I shoot only 3000-4000 frame a month, this camera should still last 3 years.... by that time, there will be a newer model to replace 7D...

L screen is great man....

Hahaha.. I work part time for a company who shoot kids party... normally would have about 8 parties to shoot a day in a location.. about 120-200 images/ party... we shoot 50% of the party between 2 photographer... so about 1300-1600 per weekend.. multiply by 4 weekends, then about 4000 frame minimum.. plus stuff I shoot myself for fun... 5000 per month quite easy lar..

Don't get paid that much though.. but better than nothing I guess..

Default A1 CCD Life Span

Sent an inquiry to KM on why my CCD failed prematurely. So far, after some email exchanges, still did not give me the answer.
