Nice! Good composition. However, the horizon on the last one is tilted.
How about sharing your nice photos with us at AQ too? Cheers, |

Oh yes....a resort over there....but not so nice. Prefer to visit a deserted beach at Tanjung Dato....almost crystal clear sea & very clean beach but very remote..... |

Errr...i also wanna go there....but no native want to stay in an old longhouse anymore....means people want comfortable life. But will check it out. Heard a friend crossed the border illegally to Kalimantan side....got longhouse, should be "not modern" since its too remote. However, they all drink "tuak'(rice wine) every weekend till everyone in the longhouse get drunk. |

Hey,
Nice pictures, brings back some memories. I stayed in Kuching before altho im Singaporean. Stayed there for about 4 years, my dad works there. Still frequent there every year. Nice place (i appreciate it now, cos of the nice sceneries). Ive been to sematan before that bridge was built. Had to drive the car onto the ferry. The ferry wait took most of the time to drive there normally. 1hr wait. Haha. The beach is rather nice at Sematan. I stayed in Damai last time, so, the water is definitely nicer than Damai's. I always wonder though, where can i find a good camera shop in Kuching? The only good shop i know of is at Sarawak plaza. But their stock is very very limited. Any suggestions? Thanks. |

In general, prices of stuff in Kuching is much higher than over in the Peninsular becuase of transportation, etc etc and don't forget the size of the market there is not big enough to give competitive prices. Air Asia very cheap. fly to KL for daytrip and get your stuff there. If they fly to Singapore in the future even better, but now no choice. BTW, looks like a lot of Kuchingites (I think that's how they call us) here. |

should try using a polariser to reduce the light reflections on the water surface.

Normally, its not advisable to shop a good camera in Kuching....not much choice & expensive. Thats why I prefer to go to KL to look for better camera, filter, lens & others. Don't look for camera in Kuching.....if you really want, go to Copal. They got a lot of branches in Kuching.....the biggest camera shop in Kuching. |

Yup, i should use polariser....I need to buy a lot of equipment but....not much money now. Will buy Nikon D70s first..then macro filter.....
About the oldest longhouse....yes, its in Kalimantan side. According to my friend, the journey is like this: Drive about 1 & half hour from Kuching to Padawan.(Pangkalan empat). Go hiking for 3 hours to the last village (an old longhouse) in Sarawak side. (The longhouse in Kalimantan side is much older than the one in Sarawak side) Stay one night either camping or sleep inside the longhouse. Then the next day morning, ask a native in the longhouse to bring you over to the longhouse in Kalimantan.....walking distance is about one hour. Problem is.....you need to cross the border illegally. If you dare to take the risk, then you may join me.....planning to go there in August 2005. (not confirm yet) Most of the girls in Kalimantan side married to the men in Sarawak side....so its easy to find a guide to bring you to cross the border. Thats what my friend told me. .....sound exciting ....but will face any consequences for crossing the border illegally. I tried that before...once in Kalimantan...& another one in Brunei. Pretty exciting. ![]() |

According to my friend, the scenery at that place is very nice...& most of the native there live in simple life.....I think they don't even have a TV! But....its great place for me as I always love adventure....I hope that longhouse is one of the oldest in Borneo. Will plan for this trip very soon....can't wait to go there. |

About a year ago I had plans to go to the Bario Highlands. today the only way to get there is to fly in (and with all those helicopters crashing in Sarawak nowadays, be sure someone's going to build a road there soon) so the place is still quite "pristine" although I'm sure its not going to be more backward than Kalimantan longhouses. For Bario I think you have to book a small plane in advanced and all that, and you need to know people there. Anyway, the trip got cancelled 'cos some family friend (who knows the people there) couldn't make it.
Point here is, I think there's still a lot of nice photo and adventure opportunities, but all we need is just time and some guts to get lost in the jungle. |
