Some photos I got back from Pulau Tenggol. Only manage to get a couple of decent (I have very low standard) wide angle shots and a few macro. Please do comment.

#6 It is having a bite on some sponge

#7 Chromodoris reticulata?

#8 Looks like a comfy bed to laze on

#9 Chromodoris magnifica

Default Improvement required

#13 This photo looks flat. Anyone can teach me how to improve on this photo?

Hi Seewhy,

you have improved alot. comparing to your previous posts, last time.. your composition and lighting control is much better.

I find that getting the technicality right first is very important. i.e. exposure, flash exposure etc. then once you're confident with that, move on to composition and stuff.

but generally good stuff, except for a couple of heavily PS'ed shots, due to lighting control(or lack of)

As of the last one.. i can imagine you are very near to the ground... unless you upgrade your equipment or get lower, i believe the shot will stand out more, or move to the left more.

again being an armchair critic... but good shots.. hopefully i'll get to dive soon...

Thanks. Well it is true that you want to improve, practice, practice more, practice more-er. And it is also true you have to check you O-ring after EVERYTIME you close the housing (yesterday beivied reminded me of my flooded camera ).

Ya there are some shots with limited light and heavily PS'ed. Light is a problem at depth, I need more light.

For #13, valid point, will remember to try shooting at diff direction. When I looked through my photos after the dive, I saw that all shots were from the same direction with diff zoom and height. Maybe I was just afraid the fish will swim away if I move too much.

Thanks for your comments. #13 is just a lizard fish (Synodus sp.) lying on a Phyllidia varicosa. I do have photo of goby and shrimp from Tenggol, but was not well taken and patience runs out. Encounter same problem as in #13, cannot get too close and no sudden movements. All shots at single direction, from the side, moving closer and closer until they retreat back to burrow.

For #12, also no goby or shrimp. I think it was taken during daytime and I saw this fully open sea whip. So try to create a black background and focusing on this thin whip to show some texture. No hidden animal to strain the eye. That's why it is in the abstract section.

There were a lot of gorgonian there but only found 1 with a single goby and the shoot did not turn out well. Tenggol have a very healthy coral population and I noted 10 species of nudi. Fish life is so-so, from what I heard, over fishing (prior to being a marine park) was the reason.
