Both companies will be working together in making future DSLRs. The joint will employ their techonologies such as KM's anti-shake, AF and metering, and Sony's CMOS sensor and info-lithium batteries. Looks good to me but future name marked on the camera body? Konica Minolta Sony. .

Knowing Sony, they would create a catchy brand name for the new company. On the other hand, I wish the Sony ppl will drop the memory stick altogether, and use the more common memory cards, and the new camera should have the Sony's laser guided focus system...

i'd really prefer the 0 lux focusing system.. but too bad cannot use like optical viewfinder, unless there is 2 viewfinder, 1 is a EVF

wow.... looks like their 1st collaboration will yield the rumoured 9D, which I believe will be a Nikon D2X killer.
Imagine.. D2X's 12MP CMOS sensor from Sony but enhanced and improved further, Sony's super longlasting InfoLithium, KM 7D's AS and weather sealing. Last edited by tao; 19th July 2005 at 03:34 PM. |

This is a collaboration and not a merger.
Most likely what you will get are 2 separate DSLR lines with their own individual characteristics using shared technologies. This is possible considering Sony's typical radical approach towards product design. However, the more conversative and probable outcome would be a single functionally identical line of DSLRs with separate branding and cosmetics. This type of partnership has long existed before. HP/Pentax, Fuji/Hassleblad, Panasonic/Leica...etc. |

What I want (and desperately too) is not really any of Sony's technology but Sony's MARKETING SKILLS for KM.
Think about it |

If you have gone thru the article on dpreview, the boss of KM actually praise the product management and logistic of sony. guess KM need to learn management and logistics and marketing rather than batteries. but nevertheless, this is good news for everybody not just KM users. ![]() |

No lah!
What I want is to raise the awareness of KM in the general consumer's eys. Actually, if you look at sony, their P&S digicams probably outsell KM, think about why that's so. It's certainly not because Sony's cameras are that much better
