Let me guess... The main subject (smiling boy) is looking

agree with all of the above,
1 thing to add is the background must also be taken into consideration good moment but let down by the situation. try again, maybe from a different angle/viewpoint

thanks for the inputs, really set me to rethink about is shot. at first I thought, OOF subjects will bring out the main subject. I guess this don't work

OOF subject does bring out the main subject but that usually works for the OOF back ground and not foreground.... Usually, try and keep the composition clean and you will be fine. Focus here is anyway on the expression.
Also, i am curious what he's smiling at... |
