Just a daily highlights of historical world events. Maybe a little something interesting for those anthropological types or perhaps also for others keen to read on.

If the age of Planet Earth from its formation in a stardust filled protoplanetary disk 4.54 billion years ago till now is condensed into 365 days, human history in this world will only take up the last six hours.

If you all will kindly excuse me, please don't mind the thread's title. Not exactly the most appropriate of words as I had something else in mind back then...

The American media need to remember too what their government did to their students in the Vietnam war protests:

    May 4 1970: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_State_shootings

    http://www.history.com/topics/vietna...m-war-protests

In that war, the well-off US citizens escaped the draft while the poor could not. Many of the war deads were from the "minority" ethnic groups. I belong to that generation of "young people" then.

    Just to add...

Amazing story of the only bag piper to set foot on the beaches of Normandy during Operation Neptune (D-Day) and Operation Overlord. William "Bill" Millin, personal piper to Brigadier Simon Fraser, 15th Lord Lovat and 4th Baron Lovat, Commanding Officer (CO) of the 1st Special Service Brigade.
