Default Drops: Abstract Macros...

Just played around with water drops after seeing them before.....

I prefocus on a selected spot on the water surface, switch to MF, and just snapping while using a dropper to drip the water.

Appreciate any comments/critique...as its my first time trying it.

FZ10, F8, ISO 50, External flash.

I like the "The i" and "The Blob". Come to think of it, "Three Legs" looks like a 'man' coming out of the water.

The colour is strong and clean and whilst some might suggest its predictability, is also very suitable for the subject matter in my opinion. The hue of blue you've chosen is very vivid and captivating. Nice strong colour. Your keeping the colours monotonous (except for the last shot) makes the presentation very powerful. It helps keeps one's focus on the drama of the splashing water.

I like the series.

Thanks kahheng! I used a blue translucent plastic container/pan for this, and I put a CD (reflected side up) below, hoping to create some lighting effect.....seems to work only for the last shot!

Anyway, glad you liked it. Thanks for the comments, good pt on the monotonous colour. Appreciate that!

subject(s) not well lit. experiment over and over again to position your light so that it highlights the form you want, right now all the shapes just get aborbed into the sea of saturated blue.

btw lighting could mean using shadows as well, black cardboards can be used to create lines in your form(s)

yes, very inspiring pictures, and i'll say one thing you must consider is how you separate your subjects from the background, noticed the photog you quoted did not take the pictures with the angle you used?

Yep you are right, I took these on the study table, and the water level was not so high.....may have to see how to set up in the kitchen......

Nice shots and good work!

Thanks for sharing the water droplet website. I tried before taking at the kitchen using water tap.

Oops... just saw the last picture, also using water tap....

Cheers!
