Yes, laser like this need live composite:

But is this overdo and too busy liao ?

But if the duration is too long, I find that some parts are over-expose especially at the lighting at the buildings in the background ...

    Thanks
Star burst and long exposure doesn't really correlate. Star burst depends on aperture. The importance of long exposure is to determine what effects you want to achieve in your shot, then decide the exposure time by playing around with aperture. Of course if there's other factors like you want a nice star burst, naturally, you will need to stop down a little more, I find F11 is quite good enough for the Oly 7-14Pro, and the diffraction is still manageable.

Shooting RAW will help to some extend of pulling back some details, underexposing a little will help too. I use GND to help me recover more highlights. Here's one shot today with the 7-14Pro and a 3 stops soft GND. I used it reverse (dark part at the bottom half) to reduce the brightness due to the boat trails. If you are proficient with Photoshop and blending, you don't really need GNDs.

I'm gonna revive this thread with another photo Never thought I'd use Live Composite in an event but I thought, why the heck not.

I blended in the lights from another short exposure shot because the lights in the long exposure didn't look too good

You know after using the Live Composite feature for some time, I really wished for the following

-Be able to MF in Live Comp mode. Right now it just locks up everything. I have to set focus before I go to Live Comp mode.
-Live Comp as separate mode. Because it is in M mode, you have to scroll your dial all the way to Live Comp, then press the Menu button to change the shutter speed. I want to be able to dial in my comp shutter speed directly, and use it as if it were M mode with limited shutter speed choices
-Alternatively, have Live Comp as a toggle, activated right from manual mode. Like hold a function button and press shutter to shoot one Live Comp shot at the current settings.

    Hi,
Question on the exposure setting in live composite. What effects does a short exposure have vs a long exposure?
When would you use a short exposure vs a long exposure for the composites?

Short exposures will results in "patterns" and long exposure will have a cleaner streak of light, but it all depends. As for short and long exposure, it depends on the required exposure. Lets say example in the city, the correct exposure is ISO 200, 4 seconds at f11, you can do 16 seconds at f22, but you get diffraction, so shorter would be better unless you used ND.

If you wanna do like light painting or light trail with a torch, long or short doesn't really matter

EM5 MK II + Oly 12-40mm Pro @ 40mm f4, 1/2s for about 2 mins, No PP, used snapspeed to convert B&W and crop square
(1st time using light composite feature to paint the background and figure with LED key chain)

Thanks to all bros here for knowledge shared.. it really helped me! :-)
