Default White Crab Spider Series

Took most of this spider today. First time saw a white crab spider. While taking it, it shot a web on my flash bounce card and climb on to my bounce card! I put it back and continue taking it.....the last part surprised me......not sure if this is what they do, but it shot a web up in the air and 'flew' off using the thread of web as a sail! Dunno by accident or purposely.

Anyway here are the shots. FZ10+6T+Sigma CU. F8, ISO 50, various speeds and some with flash and some with reverse lens.

#1: Blue (abit soft, but I like the colours)

#2: Red

#3: Black

#4: My thread

#5: The pose

#6 Another Black

#7: Not a good shot, but just like the thread of silk that is captured here...

Nice catch! Nice usage of different BG colours

I notice some are a little OOF

My fav is #5 though a little more DOF would be better. Composition is great

Last shot is a pity though... it will be my all time fav if the spider is in focus Very good effort!!!

Also went shooting today... not much to shoot actually... and the sun is a killer

I did witness the same behaviour you mention... but not from a crab spider

Thanks Mel! Agreed some of the shots are abit OOF. (If only I had charged my batteries! I would have taken more sequences..... )

#5 would be hard to get more DOF, as you can see in #6....the arms are quite wide....

some of them are not of your usual standard. i guess the subject is difficult and lighting condition seem to have been not so good. so still a good series.

Thanks for the frank comments! Appreciate that....er...can you let me know which are the not so good ones? Thanks! (for me to self evaluate....thks!)

Edit: I think the cause is due to my limited battery life...I had to stop my shooting to swap batteries...etc..so less good shots to work with, subject change position etc....subject was relatively quite ok, though it always turned and moved, and lighting was good morning sun...

i like #2 best.
both first and last are soft (but you know that already )
spider arms are OOF in several others, pbly because they are wide.
i guess another issue is the spider is white and (compared to those other hairy ones) does not have many fine details around the face area. even the eyes just black dots. All those makes it a difficult subject.

Great series & thanks for sharing... Very unique spider.
I've also seen 1 hairy-white spider at Tiong Bahru Park, but camera shy

Cheers!
