Default Fly series at Henry Park

Was there for my usual shoot, and FORGOT to charge my batteries.....AND also my spare also!!!! But still manage to squeeze out 148 shots out of my camera by switching batteries and on and off...., anyway, these are the fly shots....

#1: Side profile

#2 Frontal view

#3: A bit wider view

Between #2 and #3, which you prefer? Thanks!

Set up: FZ10+Nikon 6T+ Sigma CU, Ext flash, F8, ISO 50, various shutter speed

I like the second shot (No. 2). Both are similarly sharp. The green-blue colour on the fly's body together with its red eyes gives a more vibrant picture.

Very nice. How close were you and how were you able to squeeze so much DOF? I'm having trouble with DOF and need some direction.

Nice to see your work again

#2 has more DOF compare to #3 but in terms of BG, I dun like the dark patch on top of #2. Overall I prefer #3

Nice colours. A lot oversharpened. Esp #2. Saturation a bit over.

For #2, I use the technique described here
Thats why the DOF is more, I cut the head of another sharp head and paste it on the sharp body....

The distance was 19cm. Pic 3 shows the DOF of the actual set up.

I did USM, levels and curves, did not do any saturation of colours though. Thanks for the comments!

er...I don't do this very often...only about less than 5 times???? DOF has several factors, and the subject vs camera parallel does affect. The size of subject is also impt. If its small than maybe all is sharp, if large, than eye maybe sharp but body blur..... For technique to work well, the subject should be quite still so that the sequences of shots are of the same poisture.....

Other tricks...Sometimes, I will USM the image, than neatimage it to remove noise, than as that affects the sharpness, I will select the eyes of the USM image and paste it on the neatimage image. So that the eyes remains sharp....

Yeah. For some weird reason, the eyes of my subject always tend to be OFF. Its very hard to spot the eye when shooting.

Was at the book shop and found that there are many different type of flies.

The above green one is known as a BLOW FLY or sometimes known as Green Bottle.

Than there is a common house fly, Flesh fly (the striped black and white one).....and all along I thought all these were the same
